A former child slave and gladiator who broke the iron pits of Dravsk, Gorran became the unforeseen mortal the Undercrown could neither recognise nor control.

Born into bondage
Gorran was born into slavery and raised for bloodsport. From childhood he was trained to survive as a gladiator, his strength cultivated for the profit and spectacle of those who owned him.
The pits taught him violence, but they did not teach him obedience. He became known not merely for surviving the arena but for refusing the belief on which it depended: that one person could rightfully own another.
The iron pits of Dravsk
Gorran led an uprising among the slaves of Dravsk’s iron mines. The revolt broke beyond the pits and became a travelling liberation, freeing villages and settlements across the region.
He eventually abandoned the growing revolution when some of his former allies began to resemble the tyrants they had overthrown. Gorran would break chains, but he would not exchange one master for another or lend his name to a new oppression.
Wandering liberator
After leaving the movement, Gorran continued alone as a wandering liberator. He intervened wherever bondage had been normalised and moved on before victory could harden into office, rank or ownership.
He was later recaptured in secret and transported toward a prison associated with black stone. The surviving backstory does not identify every hand behind that capture, but it preserves the warning carried toward his eventual confrontation: ‘When Black Stone sings… swing true.’
The stray ember
At the Undercrown’s great reveal, the god claimed authorship of the other adventurers’ grief and gifts. It recognised its influence in Marlo, Sil Dray and Fizz. In Gorran it found nothing.
‘No echo. No root. No mark. A stray ember blown in by chance. An iron soul in a world of ash.’
That made Gorran the flaw in the Undercrown’s design. His anger, strength and heroism had not been bestowed to serve a later purpose. They were his own. When the Grey Vow set the black stone throne aflame and it screamed in agony, Gorran recognised its ‘song’, swung true and split the Undercrown’s anchor with his axe.
Liberation beneath the surface
Roughly thirty years before Marlo's Heart expedition, Gorran carried his liberation into the Lower Underdark. He broke a Drow garrison and freed the Nethren enslaved within the old fortress, then left without claiming rule over them.
The freed people established Stillreach and raised a rough statue of Gorran in its central square: an axe, a broken chain and a surface warrior remembered by children born after his departure. There he is honoured not as a conqueror, but as the man who made it possible for them to belong to themselves.
