A circular sheet of living parchment on which coastlines, roads and sometimes nations can be altered—with consequences in the world itself.
Overview
The Vellum Moon is thin enough to see through and warm like skin. Its surface displays the region around it from directly above, updating as clouds, travellers and even migrating animals move.
Marks made with ordinary ink vanish. A line drawn in memory rain may become a path, stream or boundary in the physical world, provided the map can reconcile the change with what the land remembers.
History
The Orunai found the Moon folded inside a tree that contained no hollow. It may be a surviving tool of the people who built the drowned causeways.
During the Veyran invasion, an unnamed listener removed the military road from the map. The road disappeared from the forest and from the invaders' memories, leaving the army unable to retreat along it.
The present record
The Enclaves hide the Moon and publicly deny it can affect anything beyond the Expanse. Talren agents nevertheless offer fortunes for even a tracing.
A second circular map has appeared in the night sky of several Orunai memories. It shows Earin with one continent missing.
