A black outcrop beside Gizmagrad where the first Delacroix crashed, endured impossible survival and conceived the city that would bear his dynasty.
Overview
Delacroix Rock is a blunt column of dark stone rising through the oldest foundations of Gizmagrad. It is ordinary in composition but permanently warm, even below the waters that now surround the city.
The founder's impact scar remains visible beneath a ceremonial brass frame. House Delacroix permits public viewing once each year and privately forbids anyone from sleeping against the stone.
History
The original Delacroix attempted to fly across the River of Sand and crashed upon the outcrop. His injuries should have killed him, yet death would not take hold while he remained so near the head of Earin buried below. After a long and poorly documented escape, he returned with the plan for Gizmagrad.
The rock became the city's first survey point. Every official distance was once measured from it, and the earliest Delacroix succession rituals were performed in its shadow.
The present record
The rock now stands inside a sealed lower hall. During the Drowning it remained dry while streets around it flooded, renewing claims that proximity to Earin rejects more endings than death alone.
Hairline cracks have recently appeared in the brass frame, all radiating outward rather than toward the impact point.
