A dynastic forge fed by the blood of Earin, responsible for Gizmagrad's impossible machines and the paradoxical continuity of House Delacroix.
Overview
The Engine is not one machine but a system of furnaces, causal loops and blood channels constructed around Earin's buried head. Components enter unfinished and may emerge ancient, perfected or accompanied by maintenance records written generations earlier.
Its greatest product was the Delacroix line itself. Birth, inheritance and memory were made sufficiently flexible that the dynasty could preserve members and knowledge across centuries in ways ordinary genealogy cannot describe.
History
Successive Delacroix artificers expanded the forge while concealing its divine fuel. The Engine powered Gizmagrad's rise and may have supplied prototypes that later triggered the Clockwork Wars.
The Drowning inundated outer works and forced a partial shutdown. After the War of the Seven Ports, competing heirs used the Engine to secure mutually exclusive successions. Several of those claims remain legally valid.
The present record
The core still operates intermittently. One faction wants it restored to save Gizmagrad; another believes every use drains the world itself. A third claims the Engine has already completed its purpose in the future and cannot now be stopped.
Recent products bear the maker's mark of the original Delacroix, although no surviving record says he ever entered the forge.
