A deep-water region beyond the Shattered Coast where drowned towers illuminate the sea and ships hear bells from beneath the keel.
Overview
At night the Fathoms glow in grids and avenues far below the surface. Towers can be seen only as lines of blue-white windows descending past any measured depth.
The sea occasionally develops a downward tide that pulls objects vertically without creating a whirlpool. Ships carry sacrificial anchor chains designed to break before the hull follows.
History
The lights were first systematically charted during the early League voyages. Divers recovered worked stone and dry parchment, but no bodies and no device capable of producing the illumination.
Warships entered the region during the Seven Ports conflict seeking a concealed route. An entire fleet vanished. For nine years afterward its signal lanterns could be seen moving beneath the water.
The present record
The League restricts entry while quietly funding dives. Deep Road surveyors believe one tunnel slopes directly toward the illuminated city.
The submerged bells have started ringing at noon as well as midnight, each sequence one note longer than the last.
