A maritime conflict for the trade created by the Drowning, fought among seven great port powers including the transformed island city of Gizmagrad.
Overview
The war combined fleets, artificer weapons, privateers, manipulated charts and commercial blockade. Victories were often measured in insurance rates rather than territory.
Gizmagrad entered to recover its lost dominance; the older coastal ports fought to prevent it. Alliances shifted so rapidly that some admirals changed flags twice during the same battle.
History
Disputes over convoy tolls and new northern channels escalated after a League lighthouse was destroyed by a machine bearing a false Delacroix mark. Retaliation spread across both the Shattered Coast and the New Waters.
The disappearance of a combined fleet in the Luminous Fathoms exhausted all sides. The Concord of Soundings limited private fleets, protected navigational works and formalised the balance among the ports.
The present record
The peace endures because every port considers it temporary. Naval yards maintain mothballed hulls, merchant houses preserve wartime codes and children learn songs that double as mobilisation signals.
New evidence suggests the first false mark came from a Delacroix workshop that would not be founded until thirty years after the war.
