Mireth is a seven-voiced serpent whose poisons reveal, intensify and counterfeit desire until appetite becomes command.
The first tongue tells you what you want. The seventh tells you that wanting made it yours.
The seven voices
Mireth appears as a jewelled serpent with seven tongues, each speaking in the voice the listener most wants to trust. One flatters, one threatens, one confesses, one promises, one excuses, one accuses and the last remains silent until consent has already been blurred.
The god is associated with both physical poison and the intoxication of being desired.
Venom and appetite
Mireth's venoms rarely kill at once. They heighten sensation, certainty or attachment, allowing the victim to mistake chemical compulsion for a revealed self.
Its cults insist desire is the only honest law. Opponents answer that desire without another person's freedom is simply hunger wearing perfume.
The perfumed coils
Shrines hide within bathhouses, gardens and private salons. Seven cups are offered, six harmless and one altered; initiates prove devotion by persuading someone else to choose for them.
Cult apothecaries produce genuine medicines alongside dependency-forming elixirs. Their respectability protects the more predatory rites.
Antidotes and clear speech
Treatment requires removing the victim from both the substance and the person through whom it was administered. Trusted companions repeat choices in plain language and accept any answer, rebuilding the distinction between desire and pressure.
Serathan courts prosecute Mireth's servants for acts rather than appetites. This matters: shame feeds secrecy, and secrecy gives the seven tongues more voices to borrow.
