Voryn

Trickster of Threads

✎ Edit☷ Tools

Voryn tugs the small threads of chance, patronising audacious lies, lucky escapes and truths that require disguise to survive.

A straight road is only a crooked road that has not met me yet.

The loose thread

Voryn was given charge of coincidence so creation would not become a machine of perfect prediction. They appear masked, smiling and never quite the same twice, carrying cords tied to events no one else can see.

Luck in Voryn's teaching is not reward. It is an opening. The blessed person is responsible for what they do with the moment before the knot tightens again.

Sacred deceit

The Trickster permits lies that protect the powerless, expose arrogance or break a cruel certainty. Lies used merely to exploit trust are considered dull, which in Voryn's faith is often treated as worse than wicked.

This moral elasticity attracts confidence tricksters and diplomats. It also produces endless arguments with the clergy of Aurelion, who note that every selfish liar believes their exception is clever.

Shrines in plain sight

Voryn's shrines hide inside other buildings: a face carved under a gaming table, a coloured thread behind a court tapestry or an altar disguised as a street stall. Finding one is part of the devotion.

Offerings are wagers whose winnings must be shared. A coin left without risk means little; a meal bet on a stranger's kindness is considered a serious prayer.

The Festival of Wrong Names

Once a year worshippers exchange names, clothes and social roles. Servants are addressed as masters, children question magistrates and formal speeches must contain one admitted lie.

The festival began as mockery of rank but became a civic safeguard. For one day, truths that hierarchy suppresses can be spoken through the protection of play.

Notes and record
