Vorstag was a cleric and veteran hunter whose powerless descent ended with Merynn's final divine intervention and the destruction of the Lantern's beholder guardian.

Cleric of the Iron Dove
Vorstag served Merynn, the Iron Dove and hunted monsters, devils and other threats in the Underdark with her full divine support. He carried a great hammer and the final feather Merynn had entrusted to him.
The silent god
During the Expedition to the Heart of Earin, Vorstag's divine magic stopped. He first suspected the depth, then remembered that Merynn had always reached him in the Underdark before. A religious elder in Stillreach told him the other possibility: clerics lose their power when their gods die.
Vorstag continued without certainty that Merynn lived or that his prayers could be heard.
The final intervention
At the Lantern temple the ancient beholder brought the expedition to the edge of destruction. Vorstag remembered Merynn's promise and raised her feather beneath the Heart's light.
Merynn returned for a single moment to answer him. Vorstag became her final champion and brought his blazing hammer down upon the beholder, burning it to ash. The feather crumbled immediately afterward. Her intervention had not undone her death; it had allowed her to answer once more before leaving the world completely.
Survivor
Vorstag helped restrain the wolf released when Erynd removed his bracelet, then helped wrestle the device back onto him after the Heart awakened. He escaped the collapsing temple with Marlo and Erynd while the Devil remained behind to sustain their spectral horses.
He reached the surface beneath the risen Heart as the divine armies stopped and knelt. He survived as Merynn's final champion, but without the god whose power had defined his life.
