Overview
The Dominion joins coastal cities that are fiercely local in custom but dependent on the same harbours, geothermal works and storm warning network. Its ruler is powerful only while maintaining the provincial compacts.
Veyran society admires craft that survives hostile conditions. Buildings, laws and people are praised as ash-tested when they have endured catastrophe without losing function.
History
Veyra united the Littoral by protecting smaller cities from raiders and sharing furnace technology under military licence. Expansion inland brought it into conflict with the Orunai and ended at the green-fire disaster.
Veyran foundries armed all sides during the Clockwork Wars. The resulting wealth built its storm fleet, while the resulting shame produced the present doctrine that no autonomous war-engine may be made on Veyran soil.
The present record
The Dominion balances commercial ambition with the moral authority of Kaelith's cliff monasteries. Its fleet patrols the eastern routes and hunts unlicensed machines from the High Artifice age.
Several calderas are cooling at once. Engineers fear an economic crisis; priests call it the first quiet breath of Kaelith in centuries.
